Why I’m single
I remember a time when Archie comics was a unifying thing for me and my siblings growing up. We still have a truckload of comics and digests lying around in my parents’ house, and my nieces and nephews get to enjoy reading them as much as we did. I’m pretty sure that with the bold statements the comics are making these days, the kids won’t be allowed to read these newer ones.
It’s a shame that conservative critics consider such a progressive move as pushing an immoral, sexual agenda. It’s all about love and equal rights, okay? Moral Majority-types, how would you feel if we told you it’s wrong to love your spouses? Having a society that supports healthy, loving relationships of any kind means that there’ll be happier families. That’s the bottom line. At least it should be.
The Avengers hasn’t even wrapped filming yet but there’s already talks of standalone films for both Hawkeye and Black Widow. I never really bought Scarlett for the role even after she kicked a little (and by little I mean severely minimal) ass in Iron Man 2. If they push through with it, they better get a damn good writer and director so they can flesh out her character like she is in the comics. I also hope that Scarlett really trains hard for the role and they get her to do A LOT of action. A whole lot more than she did in Iron Man 2. I’ll reserve my thoughts about a Hawkeye film until after I see what Jeremy Renner’s costume will look like.
Would you watch a Black Widow movie?
Dear David Slade,
Your work on Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night was excellent, which made me forgive you coaxing me into watching another lame Twilight installment. Please do something great with the Daredevil reboot you’ve been given. Since the Elektra angle’s been done (and rather miserably), try doing something with the character of Typhoid Mary in your film because Lord knows, the Typhoid Mary that faced off against Jennifer Garner didn’t even seem like Typhoid Mary at all.
A former lover of Matt Murdoch’s who has psionic powers and is a total whackjob? C’mon, that’s your movie right there! Evan Rachel Wood would be perfect to pull off the sexy, sinister, vulnerable and psychotic role.
